   One type of signal that the tiger mosquitoes respond to is a visual signal. The size of the air plume that is produced from the trap, as well as, the size and shape of the trap itself play an important role. Which customers already use Biogents® tiger mosquito traps? 

 

   The largest and most familiar health authorities and research institutes of the world are using Biogents® tiger mosquito traps. For example the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from the USA, the Pasteur Institution in France, and the Cairns Tropical Public Health Unit Network in Australia are currently using Biogents® traps.

How can I interpret the catch results of the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap? Last week, my Biogents® Mosquitiare™ trap only caught a couple of tiger mosquitoes.  

 

This catch result is normal. First, this shows that tiger mosquitoes are in the vicinity and a risk exists. Second, such a catch result is normal, because tiger mosquitoes are solitary and do not fly around in large swarms.

 

If you find no mosquitoes in the trap, you can assume that there is not a tiger mosquito problem in your area at the moment, unless however the trap is positioned incorrectly.

 

If you consistently find a large amount of tiger mosquitoes in the catch bag of the Biogents Mosquitaire trap, it may be necessary to use more than one Biogents Mosquitaire trap.

 

Note: The catch bag of the trap is rather large compared to the mosquitoes that are caught. To make sure of the numbers of the mosquitoes that you have caught, take the catch bag and close it, place it into the sun or the freezer until the last mosquitoes have died and empty it on a light-colored surface.

 

In any case, try to locate any possible breeding waters for the mosquitoes and empty them out. These water reservoirs are often found in flower pots, vases, buckets, water barrels, rain gutters, puddles, or even discarded cups that contain water. Filling them with gravel or sand will keep the mosquitoes from depositing their eggs there in the future.  

How does the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap work? 

 

   The Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap is so effective because it uses a patented combination of visual signals, artificially generated air plumes, and a patented 3-component scent imitator called the Biogents® Sweetscent™ that mimics human skin. These features have been specifically developed for the tiger mosquito. The air plume is generated from the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap via the fan that is operated from the electrical connection. This fan also distributes the scent in a very appealing and characteristic air plume around the trap. Tiger mosquitoes that approach the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap will be sucked in by the fan and caught in the catch bag. 

How does the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ kill the captured tiger mosquitoes? 

 

   The tiger mosquitoes that have been caught in the catch bag will die by drying out or dehydrating. Mosquitoes are dependent on a continuous supply of moisture. If they do not receive it then they will dry out and die.

Does the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap use CO2? 

 

   No, the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap does not use CO2 (Carbon Dioxide). Nevertheless it is still highly effective. That is the big advantage of the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap in comparison to the majority of other mosquito traps and makes the Mosquitaire™ particularly so much easier with the handling. There are no bulky or potentially hazardous gas cylinders required.

Does the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ use insecticides or pesticides?

 

   No, the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap does not use any pesticides or insecticides whatsoever. This makes the trap very environmentally friendly and harmless to people, animals, pets, or other beneficial insects such as butterflies. The Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap kills the captured mosquitoes only by dehydrating them.

How safe is the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap for people, in particular for my small children?  

 

   The Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap is completely safe for people and even small children, mainly because its does not use any pesticides or insecticides whatsoever. Obviously parts of the Mosquitaire™ trap, for example the electrical connection or the fan, should not be within reach of children. 

How safe is the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap for my pets? 

 

   The Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap is also basically completely safe for pets as well because there is absolutely no use of insecticides or pesticides. However, like children, pets should not be able to get to parts of the trap concerning the electrical connections or the fan of the Mosquitaire™ trap. 

What are the impacts of the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap on the environment? 

 

   The Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap is very environmentally friendly because it does not trap any beneficial insects like butterflies or lady bugs. Will the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap attract more tiger mosquitoes in my house or garen than there were before?  

 

   No, the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap only attracts and catches tiger mosquitoes that are patrolling around the vicinity.

Can I also use the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap inside the house? 

 

   Definitely yes, because the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap does not use any pesticides or insecticides whatsoever and also does not require a compressed gas cylinder, for example a CO2 tank. However we recommend that you check beforehand if you like the scent of the Biogents® Sweetscent™ that you find in the trap, especially at the beginning when it is rather strong smelling. You could also place a trap on the patio or in the vicinity of an open door or window so that it catches tiger mosquitoes that are patrolling around in those areas before they go inside the house. 

What role does the Biogents® Sweetscent™ play? 

 

   The Biogents® Sweetscent™ is a three component scent imitator that increases the efficacy of the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap, in addition to visual signals and artificially generated air plumes. The patented composition of Biogents® Sweetscent™ imitates the composition of human skin. 

What is special about the Biogents® Sweetscent™? 

 

   The Biogents® Sweetscent™ is a patented three component scent imitator that is specialized for use in the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap and in particular against tiger mosquitoes. Therefore it is only highly effective in combination with the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap. Each of the three components imitates a part of the main components of the human skin that tiger mosquitoes are attracted to. The particular light and permeable packaging of the Biogents® Sweetscent™ guarantees an optimally timed release of the scent into the surroundings. 

Is the Biogents Sweetscent™ the actual "secret of success" for the Biogents Mosquitaire™ trap? Would other mosquito traps obtain the same results as the Biogents Mosquitaire™ if I used a Biogents Sweetscent™ package with them? 

 

   Absolutely not. The Biogents Sweetscent™ is specifically designed for the Biogents Mosquitaire™ trap and specialized for tiger mosquitoes. Therefore, it only yields high results in conjunction with the Biogents Mosquitaire™ trap which has been proven multiple times.

How long does the Biogents® Sweetscent™ last? 

 

   The Biogents® Sweetscent™ lasts for two months. After the two months it should be replaced to ensure the effectiveness of the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap. In trade, the Biogents® Sweetscent™ package will be offered separate from the Biogents® Mosquitaire™ trap.

How do I switch out the Biogents® Sweetscent™ package? 

 

   The Biogents® Sweetscent™ can be switched out in two simple steps. These steps can be found in the Instructions Manual that comes in the packaging. You can find a detailed description under Changing the Biogents® Sweetscent™ (please click here).

I have the impression that the Biogents Sweetscent™ smell evaporates earlier than suggested. Should I exchange the Biogents Sweetscent™ before the course of two months has expired? 

 

   No. The human nose becomes accustomed to the odor and after awhile does not smell it anymore. In addition, it can be that right after opening the package a large amount of the scent is released for a short amount of time. The scent is actually still there and very efficient throughout the two months. Therefore you do not need to change the Biogents Sweetscent™ before the course of two months has expired.  However you cannot wait longer than two months to change the Biogents Sweetscent™ to ensure the effectiveness of the Biogents Mosquitaire™.
