What the catch means
The Biogents Mosquitaire is an extremely efficient trap for tiger mosquitoes. The catch will however normally be relatively small under normal circumstances. The reason is that tiger mosquitoes are often found only in small populations. But even small populations are still able to sustain a Dengue or Chikungunya epidemy. The reason is that as day-active species, tiger mosquitoes bite awake and active hosts. This is why they are both agressive, yet cautious biters and this is why they often have to break off they blood-meal prematurely. They will therefore have more contacts to different hosts than mosquitoes that bite at night. This makes them very efficient disease vectors.
If you find no mosquitoes in the trap but live in an area where they are normally present, you can assume that there currently is no tiger mosquito problem in your area, unless however the trap is positioned incorrectly.
If you consistently find a large amount of tiger mosquitoes in the catch bag of the Biogents Mosquitaire trap, it may be necessary to use more than one Biogents Mosquitaire trap.
In any case, try to locate any possible breeding waters for the mosquitoes and empty them out. These water reservoirs are often found in flower pots, vases, buckets, water barrels, rain gutters, puddles, or even discarded cups that contain water. Filling them with gravel or sand will keep the mosquitoes from depositing their eggs there in the future.
